We need to be able to change our mindset to think consistently the way wealthy people think. We can do that by educating ourselves in areas that need growth. Read books about wealth. Listen to inspiring audio messages about millionaire mindsets. Watch video programs that stretch your financial capacity. The bottom line is that your income won’t keep you where your mindset can’t hold you. You can’t have a million-dollar income with a five-dollar mindset.
Are you willing to get rid of the thought patterns, ideas about yourself and your world, and mindsets about money and wealth that have kept you contained and prevented you from stepping into the truly prosperous life that you were born for and that is waiting to be discovered? In Chapter 8 I will show you how to develop the right mindset for a prosperous life.
4 The Law of Value
People pay you according to your perceived value. What determines your value? Mostly it’s your skill set. So if you increase your skills, you will increase your value and that will increase your income. But here’s a tip: don’t spread yourself too thin. You can’t be good at everything. If you want your life to be a success, it is important to focus on the one thing that your life can be given to. Find your place in the world and stick to it.
One of the mistakes I made years ago was to spread myself too thin. I began doing too much. I was running six organisations and sitting on the boards of several other worthwhile causes. My intentions were good, but I was diluting my strengths and my focus to the point that I was no longer fully effective.
Most of the world’s great achievers were great at one thing. Mother Teresa didn’t feed everyone or run programs for every needy person in Calcutta. She targeted a specific group. You can’t be the best at everything. People who think they are good at everything generally are expert at nothing. So learn to add value by focusing on specific key strengths.
5 The Law of the Seed
Some people call this the Law of Seedtime and Harvest or the Law of Investment and Return. I believe this is the greatest of all the laws. The bottom line is that we reap what we sow. Whatever we give or invest in will grow and we will receive a reward down the track. A farmer knows that if he sows seeds in fertile soil in the right season, he will reap a harvest within a given time frame. This time-honoured law applies to every area of our lives — even our finances. And it can work for you if you will apply it. This is such an important law that I have dedicated Chapter 7 to it.
6 The Law of Teachability
What you know has brought you to where you are right now. But you need more knowledge and wisdom to progress further towards your dream. So how do you get it? Through
